A beautiful wooden sculpture painted in bright colors. The work of art is called ‘Man, Bird of Fish’, created by Govert Heikoop (1951-2007).
Period of design/production : 1980’s
Heikoop was an ingenious craftsman which you can also see in this piece of art with its dynamic curves and bold colors divided over different sides and parts. This creates a striking whole of color and form.
This piece of art was acquired directly from the familiy’s collection. Looking at its colors and shapes, you can see influences by postmodern designs and the Memphis Design movement.
The title ‘Man, Bird, Fish’ comes from its shape as seen from above (see all images). From above, you see the shape of a man (turquoise part), a bird (light blue part) and a fish (the red part). The man is not real clear on the image, as its ‘head’ is not shown well on the image.
Its round and curvy shapes contrast with the hard plywood which is used and make this an interesting piece and real one-of-a-kind art work for collectors and enthusiasts alike.
